Statement of Intent for Position Statements
Factors common to all our Position Statements are that NACE educators understand that:
All expectant parents are entitled to ownership of their unique personal experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenting. They have the right to share in their decision making processes, thus enabling them to make informed choices and decisions regarding any health and medical care decisions.
Educators are required to provide all expectant parents with accurate, current and evidence based information in a non-judgmental manner. Presentation of information should display respect for varying cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds and beliefs. This information should be provided either within the learning environment or the appropriate references/resources to the consumers should be made available so they may access it themselves.
All expectant parents have the right to respectful and professional care.
All educators are required to apply principles of adult education, recognising expectant parents’ prior life experiences and knowledge.
All educators are accountable and responsible for their own professional development.
