Professor Connie Katelaris AM is a Professor of Immunology and Allergy at the University of Sydney and Head of Department and Senior Staff Specialist at Cambelltown Hospital in NSW. She is also a private allergist at Allergy and Immunology Services in Westmead.
Prof Katelaris has made substantial contributions to the fields of allergy and clinical immunology, Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and international allergy/immunology organisations.
She has authored and co-authored many publications on a wide variety of allergy and clinical immunology topics, is a regular invited speaker at national and international meetings and is acknowledged as an outstanding mentor to physicians training in allergy and clinical immunology.
In 2019, Prof Katelaris was awarded an Order of Australia award in recognition of her significant contributions to improving care of patients with allergy and other immune diseases.
For more than four decades, Prof Katelaris has consulted for both paediatric and adult patients with the full range of immunological and allergic disorders. She has been involved in original research on latex allergy, various aspects of food and drug allergy and has conducted one of the longest running aerobiological surveys in Australia.
She has a longstanding interest in clinical trials, having been a principal investigator on numerous trials for innovative treatments in asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria and Hereditary Angioedema.
Prof Katelaris has held a number of executive positions, including past president of ASCIA and Chair of three ASCIA working parties, as well as Chair of the ASCIA Antibiotic Allergy subcommittee. She is past president of Asia Pacific Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology and has held numerous positions on the World Allergy Organization Board over more than a decade. Prof Katelaris is also a member of the Aerobiology Subcommittee of the AAAAI and Board member of the International Association of Aerobiology.
Prof Katelaris is Co-chief Investigator of the NACE-led Allergic Rhinitis Improvement through Strategic Education: The ARISE Trial to help improve how young Australians manage hay fever.
